St. Louis Cardinals and Albert Pujols agree on talks deadline
Situation for St. Louis Cardinals is looking perplexed and there is not much the club can do to get itself out of the predicament.
There is rising pressure on the club to sign its versatile first baseman, Albert Pujols but nothing can be done when it comes to financial matters. The team has stringent cash flows for the deal and the only thing that is certain is a negotiation deadline,
set for Wednesday. The news update comes from the General Manager of the Cards himself.
One of the things that have been cleared recently by media reports is that the Cardinals have limited time to act as there is spring training on the horizon. Cards’ General Manager, John Mozeliak iterated the situation and said if the club was not able to
reach an agreement with the player’s agent, Danny Lozano by 11 am on Wednesday, the talks between the two parties would officially end.
One of the biggest developments to occur recently was the push of the deadline towards Wednesday from Tuesday. The recent development came after Stan Musial had been confirmed to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom at the White House on Tuesday.
“One of the things we wanted to make sure is, tomorrow's a very big day for Stan Musial,” Mozeliak said on Monday morning. “And it wouldn't make any sense to have a large distraction for that special day, given the amount of respect we have for that man.
So it only makes sense to make sure we weren't trying to have a lot of things going on, given what's happening tomorrow in Washington.”
Mozeliak went on to clarify that the only thing needed was just a confirmation on terms of agreement if the contract was not going to be signed.
What needs to be done here is a settlement where both parties are happy with each other. Pujols is entering the last year on his eight-year $111 million contract in 2011. He will enter the free market after the season if no deal is signed between him and
the Cards.
