St. Louis Cardinals are better prepared for the World Series – MLB Update
The St. Louis Cardinals are all-set to take on American League Champions Texas Rangers in the World Series scheduled to start from Wednesday, October 19 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and it seems that the Redbirds are at an advantage in the seven-game
series.
The Cardinals are high on confidence after rattling the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series and then overcoming a resilient opposition from Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Championship Series to win the pennant rather comprehensively.
Qualifying for the postseason via the Wild Card standings, the Cardinals have NLCS Most Valuable Player David Freese on their roster in addition to All-Star slugger Albert Pujols and scheming manager Tony La Russa.
The Rangers, confident after winning the pennant for the second successive year, are largely dependent on the offence after the likes of C.J. Wilson and Colby Lewis have failed to impress thus far. On the offensive front, the Rangers are rated among the
best on the circuit and proved it when they overwhelmed the Detroit Tiger 15-5 in Game 6 of the AL Championship Series.
Wilson impressed in the regular season with a win-loss record of 16-7 at a 2.94 ERA, but has not won a single start in the playoffs thus far. In Game 1, he will take the hill against Cardinals’ ace Chris Carpenter, who finished the regular season with 11
wins and nine losses at a 3.45 ERA. However, statistics do not indicate the true worth of his ability, which was evident when he blanked the Philadelphia Phillies in the elimination game of the NLDS.
Although the Rangers have a superior rotation, the Cardinals have an edge as far as the middle relievers and closers are concerned. Jason Motte has saved five chances for the Cardinals as compared to two by Rangers’ Neftali Feliz.
The Rangers might seem to be strong on paper, but the Cardinals have a more productive bull-pen. La Russa has not been hesitant in using his strength and has reiterated that he might go all-out in Game 1 against the Rangers.
It will be interesting to see how the Redbirds counter the offensive powerhouse in the seven-game series.
