St. Louis Cardinals batter Atlanta Braves 6-3, takes wild card playoff – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals battered the Atlanta Braves 6-3 on Friday, October 5 at Turner Field in Georgia in the National League Wild Card game.
"Anything can happen, That shows you right there that the team that does the little things wins. Atlanta played great all year round, but when it comes to one game, you never know, Anything can happen," Carlos Beltran said.
Cardinals played much better than the Braves and took the Wild Card playoff spot in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
“We talked and said, 'Let's finish this thing, and once we do, let's get out of town and get inside, I don't think they could have been more underdogs than they were last season, and they learned from that," St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said.
Cardinals will now play in the National League Division Series after a thrilling game of baseball. Cardinals’ entire roster kept their cool and hammered the Braves with big energy.
Though Braves went ahead early in the second inning with two runs, but the Cardinals spirited offence quickly started a brilliant streak with a flurry of runs which proved too good for Atlanta.
St. Louis pitchers played a key role in their team’s win as they pitched with great accuracy and intelligence. They received a total three runs and twelve hits in nine innings.
Allowing one homer in entire game, the Cardinals' pitchers struck-out total seven Braves' batters and rattled them with big energy.
Starter Kyle Lohse started the game for the Cardinals as he pitched over five innings spell and allowed only two runs and six hits. He received one homer and struck-out six batters on 3.18 ERA.
"It has been a season of a lot of firsts, It felt great to be called upon in a big situation like that," Lohse said.
Relief pitcher Edward Mujica also played well and supported his team with his 0.2 innings spell in which he allowed one run and two hits on 13.50 ERA.
Meanwhile, experts believe that the way Cardinals’ qualified into the postseason they have an apparent chance to win the World Series again.
