St. Louis Cardinals beaten by Miami Marlins 3-5 at Marlins Park – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals were beaten by Miami Marlins 3-5 at Marlins Park in Miami on Wednesday, June 27 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Carlos Beltran had a sacrifice fly to left and David Freese doubled to deep right-centre to give the Cardinals an early 2-0 lead. John Buck led the counter attack for the Marlins as he earned an RBI single to left in the fifth and Jose Reyes had a RBI groundout
to second in the fifth to level the score 2-2.
Buck hit his second home-run of the season and pinch hitter Logan Morrison homered to right to help Miami comeback from behind to catch a superb victory.
"Any time you beat the Cardinals, it's a good win especially when they're playing that well," Buck said. "Hopefully it can be momentum we can build on and start our own little stretch here."
"I was just looking for a good pitch to hit and I got it," said Tony Cruz. "Thankfully, it went out. It's a great feeling. I had a lot of family here tonight. They knew I was playing. I thank (manager) Mike (Matheny) for giving me the opportunity of letting
me play in front of my family. Unfortunately, we didn't get the win, though."
The win will be of great importance for the Marlins who had last eight of nine prior to this game. Right now, the Marlins are at the bottom of the National League East Division standings table with 35-40 record and it will be interesting to see if they can
bring some consistency in their results to give the fans something to cheer about.
Cardinals, on the other hand, will be disappointed with the fact they ruined their chance to complete an emphatic series sweep. The 2011 World Series Champions edged the Marlins in series opener and they continued their domination in the second game.
Despite taking the loss, St. Louis are just one game behind the National League Central leaders Cincinnati Reds and it will be very exciting to see if they can make it to the World Series finale at the end of the season.
