St. Louis Cardinals considering options for Saturday’s start against Los Angeles Dodgers – MLB
The St. Louis Cardinals have been considering options for Jaime Garcia’s scheduled start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. The decision to weigh options comes at a time when Garcia’s recent road outing was once again poor.
In the game against the San Diego Padres, Garcia allowed four runs in just three innings. That was particularly bad given the fact that the Cardinals are working hard for a Wild Card spot.
What is more, Garcia has 6.19 road ERA which brings to fore the potential inability of the player to keep the batters at bay other than at Busch Stadium where his ERA stands at 2.63.
What the plans of the Cardinals is unknown at this point in time. The general manager John Mozeliak said the club is considering everything. Whether or not the Cardinals decide to keep the starter’s name unchanged is not certain.
Mozeliak said, "I don't know if we will, but certainly last night was disappointing. I know before I left the ballpark I spoke to Mike Matheny a little bit about it, but we did not come to a conclusion."
There apparently is nothing wrong as far as the fitness of the 26-year-old pitcher is concerned. However, the outings have not lived up to the team’s expectations, leaving a lot of questions unanswered.
"In terms of body language, he just seems to be a little bit more fidgety or nervous at times when he's on the road," Mozeliak said. "We try to consider all the different angles, and we need to try to put him in a position where he feels he can be successful."
The Cardinals are a strong candidate to be the claimant of a Wild Card spot. But faced with challenge posed by the Los Angeles Dodgers who are only a game behind them, the Cardinals have to put things in order.
With Chris Carpenter gradually making his return to the mound, as a simulated game is scheduled for Saturday, it will have to be seen if Jaime Garcia overcomes the problems he is faced with. The failure will spell potential disaster for the Cardinals.
