St. Louis Cardinals could sign another relief pitcher – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals showed consistent performance in this past Major League Baseball season in which their relatively inexperienced players performed with tremendous consistency.
However, after losing to San Francisco Giants in the final stages of post season (playoffs), they management now has realised that Cardinals were short with couple of relievers in many crucial games.
Recently the Cardinals' management has turned their attention to include some of the good free agent relievers this offseason.
Lefty Marc Rzepczynski was the only reliever in the Cardinals who played the entire season with consistency and impressed with his performance.
“Rzep’s peripherals were still pretty good, but there is some external variables that affect him that we need to make sure as an organization we get right, I think usage is critical. I think having another lefty made him feel better. When he was a one-man band out there he didn’t pitch as well. That’s why we need to find someone,” general manager John Mozeliak said about the reliever and told the media about his utter need in the franchise.
Mozeliak said with more confidence, “I’m not opposed to a multi-year deal with a reliever, In the past we’ve always been chasing that complementary lefty, whereas this year we might be looking for someone who can share the burden with Rzepczynski.”
Cardinals’ reliever played 70 games and remained consistent with his 4.24 ERA. He struck-out 33 along with 1.35 WHIP.
For a three-year Major League veteran, this ERA is quite impressive. Overall he possesses career 4.04 ERA along with 211 strike-outs and 1.38 WHIP.
Rzepczynski started his career from the Toronto Blue Jays platform and played consistently with them. The 2011 Major League Baseball season proved wonderful for him as he won the World Series ring with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Experts believe that Rzepczynski is a good player and showed great consistency in a short period of time. He always gives his best on the mound and never played poorly.
His blistering pitching and offensive plays are the leading skills of his throwing which always makes things difficult for his opposing batters.
