St. Louis Cardinals defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 11-2 – MLB Update

The National League’s franchise St. Louis Cardinals has tuned into winning form as they overpowered league rival the Los Angeles Dodgers with a big 11-2 margin in the second-straight competition of the four-game series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on
Friday, April 15.
The Cardinals’ batting came alive early with Lance Berkman’s 401-feet long homer. It caused the destructive effect on the opposition’s starter Jon Garland, who then allowed four more hits in the same inning that yielded an RBI single to David Freese and
Ryan Theriot. Garland was allowed to second base with a balk, which he thought, was wrong decision as he thoroughly explained in post-game conversation.
"I still don't think it's a balk," Garland said. "He said I started toward the plate, which is weird because when I start to go back into my set position, I go back, and he said I went forward. So I think maybe he blinked and then saw me turn because I turn
and look at the runner every time someone is on base. And until you're set, you can do that."
However, in the fourth, Berkman marked the day to his name with another homer to right-field widening the lead to 4-0. The Dodgers retaliated in the bottom of the inning when Matt Kemp touched a led off RBI single. Andre Ethier followed Kemp adding another
run and trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the same inning, the Dodgers failed to achieve more runs until the end of the exhibition.
Veteran Albert Pujols hit a 408-feet long homer off Dodgers’ reliever Kenley Jansen, who relieved Garland just seven pitches ago. In the seventh inning, Albert launched another homer on his back-to-back at-bats again huge 411-feet long to centre-field. The
31-year-old right-hand slugger advanced his record to four homers and team to seven wins.
The Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa commented on Pujols, who would become a free agent next year, that he would have a great year if he kept going like this.
The Cardinals kept scoring until last inning and earned their victory with nine runs ahead of the Dodgers two runs.
Garland consumed five runs and nine hits including two homers and made two strike-outs. On the other, the Cardinals’ starter Kyle Lohse pitched just over seven innings, yielded just two runs, walked one and managed six strike-outs for his second win of the
season.
