St. Louis Cardinals defeated by San Francisco Giants 1-6 in Game 6 of NLCS – MLB Recap
St. Louis Cardinals lost to the San Francisco Giants 1-6 in Game 6 of their seven-match encounter in National League Championship Series on Sunday, October 21 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
"You've seen us the last couple years -- it seems, unfortunately, we don't win until we absolutely need to, We got to go in there, wipe the slate clean. We've got one game to play," Kyle Lohse said on his team’s performance against the San Francisco Giants.
Before this game, the Cardinals were winning 3-2 but in Sunday’s game, they could not play their natural and offensive play and eventually lost with bitter humiliation.
“We won a one-game playoff in Atlanta, We won a big Game 5 in Washington. And now, before we move on, we have to win a Game 7 here,” said Daniel Descalso as he explained in detail about the Cardinals overall performance.
From start of the game, the Cardinals played under pressure and did not put up any fighting spirit. Their entire roster played poorly and lost against the Giants' fine pitching.
“You go out there and you play like there's no tomorrow, And these guys have done a great job of it. They're keeping their poise, and they're finding ways to get it done," Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said.
Cardinals’ batters only scored one run during the entire game which was not enough to match the Giants’ overall brilliance.
On the other hand, the Cardinals' pitchers also did not perform well and were hammered with big hits by the Giants' upfront batting.
Cardinals’ veteran Chris Carpenter was given the responsibility to pitch in this crucial game but he disappointed his entire team. He pitched way-ward and received five runs and six hits on his four innings spell. He struck-out six but his overall performance and more importantly 4.50 ERA certainly lost the game for the Cardinals.
Closer Marc Rzepczynski could not help his team-mate and starter Carpenter and received a crucial run later in the inning. Though he struck-out one but his ERA rose to 6.75 which proved one of the losing factors for the Cardinals.
