"I kissed him right on the cheek. I'm not afraid to tell the whole world, either, I wanted to kiss him on the mouth. He saved me, he saved the team today. If we'd have lost that game, I don't think I'd sleep at all tonight," Wainwright said.
Relief pitcher Sam Freeman pitched 0.1 innings and did not receive any run or hit on his 5.60 ERA.
Along with pitchers, the Cardinals' batters also performed well and earned a great victory for their team.
Carlos Beltran scored two runs and smashed two hits along with one RBI on his five at-bats. He pushed the Cubs' pitchers with enormous energy and proved one of the winning factors for the Cardinals.
"It's no secret you're going to get a fastball and you're gonna get a slider, We were trying to put ourselves in a position to at least score a run. I was able to get a pitch to hit. In my mind, I'm just trying to put myself on the basepaths," Beltran said on his and the team's performance.
Left fielder Matt Holliday did well on his four at-bats as he scored one run and smashed one hit along with an RBI on his consistent slugging percentage of .511.
Allen Craig batted five times and scored one run and two hits. He kept the Cubs’ pitchers under pressure and remained on top of his game which eventually landed the Cardinals a great victory.
Second baseman Matt Carpenter also did well on his .481 slugging percentage as he scored one run and smashed one hit on his single at-bat.
