St. Louis Cardinals edge San Francisco Giants 3-1 – MLB Recap
The St. Louis Cardinals crushed the San Francisco Giants 3-1 in the fourth and final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, August 9 at Busch Stadium in Missouri.
Adam Wainwright helped his team to win the last game of the series. He pitched seven solid innings and allowed only one run and five hits. He retired seven Giants’ batters and earned a great victory for the Cardinals.
He remained calm on the mound for seven straight innings and received only one earned run on his 3.90 ERA. Along with Wainwright, the Cardinals other two pitchers also contributed well in their team’s win.
"We're fortunate enough to have one of those stoppers on your staff who will take a bad run or something headed in the wrong direction and will turn it around with a solid start, Adam seems to be taking control of it and giving us a great opportunity to
right the ship," manager Mike Matheny said with confidence about his team’s performance.
Relief pitcher Mitchell Boggs pitched one inning and struck-out one on his 2.20 ERA while closer Jason Motte also finished the last inning of play with great energy not receiving any hit or run on his 2.63 ERA.
On the other hand, the Giants’ entire team played poorly and lost in the end with bitter humiliation. They did not show any fighting spirit during the entire game and eventually could not save the game.
“We needed this win today," he said. "This is kind of what I live for. If there is a challenge out there, I'm ready for it. Not that you need more motivation but (the 15-0 loss) allowed me to focus a little bit more."
Madison Bumgarner started the play for San Francisco but in just six innings, he allowed three runs and three hits along with three earned runs. He looked tired on the mound and also smashed with a homer on his 3.08 ERA.
Later though the Giants’ other pitchers somewhat gave some stability to their franchise but the damage was already done by their starter who lost the game for the team.
