St. Louis Cardinals edge past Chicago Cubs 3-2 – MLB news
St. Louis Cardinals edge past the Chicago Cubs 3-2 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on July 12 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
The Cardinals played wonderfully and hammered the Cubs with great force. They played as one unit and never allowed any big loop holes during the entire game.
“Yesterday wasn't a good one and today was better, for sure, That's baseball. Some days you feel like you come to the ballpark and you try and nothing works out your way, and today it seems like everything worked out my way,” said Beltran, who had a run-scoring
triple, double and single.
Cardinals batters and at the same time pitchers played terrifically and won in style. They kept the Cubs under pressure throughout the game and eventually won with great authority.
“I just attacked with everything -- slider, curve ball, change-up, four-seam, two-seam (fastball), When you throw a couple of those for strikes, you make it easier on yourself. If you're throwing some off-speed and command both sides of the plate with the
heater, it makes for a little better time out there,” Kelly said.
Second baseman Matt Carpenter played beautifully and helped the Cardinals win the game. He scored one run on two hits while he added one RBI as well. He played confidently on the plate on his four at bats while he maintained his slugging percentage at .500.
Right fielder Carlos Beltran also played well on his four at bats as he scored one run on three hits while he added one RBI on his .539 slugging percentage.
Along with batters, the Cardinals pitchers also performed wonderfully and hammered the Cubs with great force.
Joe Kelly started the game for the Cardinals and pitched 5.1 inning and allowed one run on three hits. He also allowed one earned and struck out four Cubs hitters on his 3.88 ERA.
Kevin Siegrist also played well as he pitched one inning and allowed one run on one hit. He also allowed one earned run on his 0.69 ERA. He struck out three and pitched in right areas throughout his spell.
