St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak three-year contract extension – MLB Update
The St. Louis Cardinals management made a wise decision on Thursday by giving team general manager John Mozeliak three-year contract extension. Many inside Cardinals were expecting this decision as well.
"We just thought it was an appropriate time, We wanted to solidify their standing in the organization beyond one year, and keep the continuity of a first-rate baseball operation going. I think it's been very helpful the way [Mozeliak] has taken charge from
day one, that we were all in agreement in how he we're structured and what the goals were,” Cardinals principal owner Bill DeWitt Jr. said.
Later Mozeliak said, “The thing that right away had to be done was create a more transparent communication, We wanted to do that by setting a strategic plan from the senior level and work its way all the way through the organization."
With this recent extension, the Cardinals GM becomes the longest running Cardinals’ GM. The new deal will take him through 2016.
Meanwhile, the Major League experts have appreciated the Cardinals’ farsightedness as Mozeliak is given three-year extension.
On the other hand, it is also expected now that Cardinals offensive approach will be continued in the coming seasons as well. Mozeliak knows well the entire Cardinals roster and this why, St. Louis showed enormous confidence on him regarding the continuation
of the offensive game plan.
Especially when the Cardinals have some of the very good players in the team, the GM knows that the team has a good chance next season.
With the presence of starter Chris Carpenter, Jaime Garcia and Lance Lynn, the Cardinals certainly have a chance next season.
Carpenter was exceptional in the last Major League Baseball season where he achieved 3.71 ERA along with 0-2 win loss, 12 strikeouts and 1.12 WHIP. Overall he is also carrying good career 3.76 ERA along with 144-94 win loss, 1697 strikeouts and 1.28 WHIP.
Left hander starting pitcher Garcia also did well in the last season by achieving 3.92 ERA along with 7-7 win-loss, 98 strikeouts and 1.36 WHIP. He is also considered a good and offensive pitcher in the Cardinals roster as he has achieved so far 3.43 ERA
along with 34-23 win loss, 394 strikeouts and 1.33 WHIP.
