St. Louis Cardinals hammer San Francisco Giants 8-3 in Game 4 of NLCS – MLB Recap
St. Louis Cardinals hammered the San Francisco Giants 8-3 in Game 4 of their seven-match encounter of National League Championship Series on Thursday, October 18 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
"They do have something, there's no getting around that, It's not over. We've been in this position. We know it's an uphill battle, we've been here before," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said.
Adam Wainwright pitched and rattled the Giants' top offence with great force. He tossed seven solid innings and received only one run and four hits. He was hit with one homer and struck-out five Giants’ batters. He remained calm on the mound and maintained his 1.29 ERA with an exceptional pace.
With this win, Wainwright has starched a 3-1 lead for the Cardinals in this crucial final contest ahead of World Series seven-match encounter with the Detroit Tigers.
Tigers proved too good for the New York Yankees in their respective clash of American League Championship Series in which they ousted their opponents 4-0 in seven-match encounter.
"This is where we are and what we've got to deal with, The last series, we were down in a similar situation, but this is a new series," Hunter Pence said.
In Thursday’s game, the Cardinals’ closer Fernando Salas also helped his team-mate and starting pitcher Wainwright as he pitched last two innings and allowed only two runs and two hits along with a homer. He struck-out one while he remained consistent with his 6.00 ERA.
"Right now, the plan is to come in tomorrow and do what I have to do in order to be in the lineup,” said Carlos Beltran.
Cardinals' batting line-up also showed their offensive plays against the Giants' dire pitching rotation.
Centre fielder Jon Jay batted five times and scored one run and smashed two hits along with two RBI on his consistent slugging percentage of .294.
"We're not taking the last game to get into the World Series for granted, The Giants have proven they're a great team,” Matt Holliday said.
Left fielder Matt Holliday added one run and smashed two hits along with two RBIs on his consistent .235 slugging percentage.
