St. Louis Cardinals hammered 0-5 by San Francisco Giants in Game 5 of NLCS – MLB Recap

St. Louis Cardinals were hammered by San Francisco Giants 0-5 in Game 5 of their seven-match encounter in National League Championship Series on Friday, October 19 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
"We never [thought] for a second that these guys are going to go away, They're a good team, and they're going to keep fighting. We know that. It just comes down to execution. They executed today better than we did," manager Mike Matheny said of the Giants and their level of performance in this particular game.
Cardinals’ starter Lance Lynn was bitterly hammered by the Giants' offensive batters as he received four runs and four hits on his 3.2 innings. Though he struck-out six but his ERA rose to 4.91 which proved one of the losing factors for the Cardinals.
“I could have gotten myself out of the inning, It's definitely my fault," Lynn said about his poor outing after the game.
Before the game, the Cardinals were confident that will win against the Giants. However, soon the Cardinals realised that the Giants have something else in mind and they are not here to lose again.
In addition to Cardinals realisation, the Giants did exactly what their opponents felt when Barry Zito pitched with enormous power. Soon the game was over as the Giants proved too good for the Cardinals in every area of play.
Along with losing pitcher Lynn, the other Cardinals' pitchers were also hammered and did not show any fighting spirit against the Giants' upfront offensive batters.
Relief pitcher Mitchell Boggs pitched one inning and received one run on one hit. He also received a homer and struck-out one on his 3.38 ERA.
“We can't take anything away from Barry Zito, He went out there and won them that game. It doesn't matter how hard you throw when you have deception and a good curveball. He's as tough as anybody when he's right. He did great tonight," Cardinals' reliever Mitchell Boggs said.
Cardinals’ hitters also disappointed their team. They could not score any run during the entire game and lost bitterly from the San Francisco Giants.
