St. Louis Cardinals humiliate Arizona Diamondbacks 15-5 to grab first series-win – MLB Update
In a Major League Baseball outing at Chase Field in Arizona, the National League’ St. Louis Cardinals made their first series win this season overpowering league rival Arizona Diamondbacks 15-5 on Wednesday, April 13.
It was the day of veteran Lance Berkman as he sent message to MLB clubs that he still has the ability to win games. The 35-year-old confirmed it by launching his fourth home-run of three games and adding five runs.
The Cardinals, managed to put in a tremendous effort to overpower and humiliate the Diamondbacks with some amazing offence and technically sound defence. Tony La Russa, who is manager for the club in this season, was inspired with the triumph as he stated
it in meeting with reporters after the game.
The Cardinals’ dominated right from the start as Colby Rasmus added a lead off RBI single on a wild pitch by the Diamondbacks’ starter Ian Kennedy. Berkman came into action with a line drive to earn an RBI single. Both players contributed again in the second
inning, but this time Rasmus came up with a double and Berkman with a huge 387-feet long four-run homer. It helped the Club to achieve eight runs lead.
The Cardinals did not stop and kept going until they confirmed their triumph. Jake Westbrook drove in a single in the third and in the fourth Skip Shumaker moved the lead to 12-0 launching a three-run homer off Diamondbacks’ reliever, Aaron Heilman. Albert
Pujols, who was scoreless in his first games, finally succeeded in making two RBIs and David Freese drove in a RBI single widening the lead to 15-2 on the board.
The Cardinals’ starter Westbrook pitched three scoreless innings before he yielded a two-run homer to the Diamondbacks’ hitter Russell Branyan. The 35-year-old hurler then allowed three more runs and ended the game on loss with 7.63 ERA.
The Cardinals’ cruised to an easy victory, humiliating the Diamondbacks with a ten run margin. St. Louis put in a brilliant performance to show their dominance in the league.
The win has boosted the Cardinals’ camp, as they will open a four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It will be interesting to see how the Cardinals carry their winning momentum forward into this series with Dodgers. The Diamondbacks put in a decent
performance, but it was not enough to contain the dominant Cardinals’ offence.
