St. Louis Cardinals look forward to Opening Day game at Marlins Park - MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals will have double joy to savour, and celebrate on Wednesday, April 04, when they will face the Miami Marlins in the Opening Day game. The game will be played at Marlins Park, the newly built and recently inaugurated ballpark, and the St. Louis Cardinals will be playing the game as the defendant of the 2011 World Series title.
While for the team manager Mike Matheny it is ‘unique’, other descriptions include, and are not limited to, “big” and “bright”. Whatever the title chosen for describing the ballpark, there are some challenges too that the Cardinals will face.
Kyle Lohse is one of the players who has his insight to share about it.
"It didn't seem like [the balls were] carrying very well, but you never know until you play a game in it," said Kyle Lohse, who will start for St. Louis on Wednesday. "It seemed like it was tough for some guys to get balls out during batting practice, but that could change."
When it comes to Jon Jay, the centre right fielder, who has also closely followed the games here, one has to wait and see how the ball park works.
"It's definitely a big ballpark," center fielder Jon Jay said. "That's the first thing I noticed. I guess you'll have to see during the year. Today was just one day. I've seen some home runs hit in exhibition games, so we'll just see how it plays out during the year."
Along with the spaciousness and beauty of the ground, it will be the nail-biting Opening Day game and the moves in it that will grip the attention of the crowd and the TV-viewing audience. Miami Marlins hope to put up a tough resistance against the World Series champions.
The Cardinals, on the other hand, will try to assert themselves as the champions. Given the strength of the team with experience that the combination of the players they have, the Cardinals have got the relative advantage, and may possibly prevail. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see which team – at the end, prevails.
