St. Louis Cardinals looking to pursue Juan Uribe, vigorously

Post season action came to an end, earlier this month when the San Francisco Giants took down the Texas Rangers in the World Series. The National League Champions triumphed and they did their very best to bring home the crown that had evaded them for the
last 56 years. They never won the main title when the franchise moved to San Francisco from New York, in 1956.
Now as the off season approaches Thanksgiving, teams all over the leagues are looking at going to the free agents’ market looking to recruit fresh blood and veterans. The restructuring phase has dawned and teams are robust over the idea of success in 2011.
With spring training scheduled for 2011, February, the move could well play in the favour of many teams.
ESPN recently reported that the St. Louis Cardinals are hot in pursuit of Juan Uribe, who is currently working with the San Francisco Giants. The 31 year old shortstop is rumoured to be employed in the 3rd baseman position for the Cardinals who
are looking for a sound contributor apart from David Freese. Freese recently underwent surgery on both his ankles and could be a dark horse in the coming season. For St. Louis the time is of the essence and it seems the chase will be hard to follow down the
line as the salary demands will be high after the World Series ring was clinched by the hard hitter.
However, Uribe is not the only option for the Cardinals to pursue as Miguel Tejada is available in the free agents’ market and could be recruited as a worthy replacement for Freese. The former San Diego Padres man featured for the club and the Baltimore
Orioles last season, posting a batting average of .269. He smashed 15 homers and drove in 71 runs as playing in both Shortstop and third baseman position.
Uribe on the other hand, had a batting average of .248 last season and punched thorugh 24 home runs and 85 RBIs (Runs Batted In). With an on base percentage of .310, the slugger could act as the right man for the Cardinals to kick off the 2011 season in
April. His last salary with the Giants pushed up a figure of $3.25 million. It waits to be seen whether the player will agree with the move if the side comes knocking hard at his door.
