St. Louis Cardinals lose to Kansas City Royals 2-3 – MLB Recap
The St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Kansas City Royals 2-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, June 15 at Busch Stadium in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Starter Vin Mazzaro played superb for the Twins as he received five hits and no runs in his six innings’ spell. He remained calm on the mound and gave any chance to his opposing batters to play him easy. His fast and curving pitches remained unplayable for the Twins as he smoothed past retaining his 2.57 ERA with exceptional power.
The only two runs’ of the Royals side was conceded by relief pitcher Roman Colon who was taken off immediately pitching just 0.2 innings.
On the other hand, the Cardinals’ pitchers were not accurate with the ball. Their too waivered deliveries helped the Royals to score three runs.
Cardinals’ starter Kyle Lohse tossed seven innings and allowed three important runs and ten hits. He also gave three earned runs and could not hold his ERA of 2.98.
Not only the pitchers, the Royals’ batting offence also played exceptionally as their third baseman Mike Moustakas performed with great care. He displayed a defensive game and earned his management’s confidence.
"On that play, it doesn't really matter where you make that throw," Moustakas said. "You've just got to get it and get rid of it and give your catcher a chance to tag him out."
Later in the game, the Cardinals short stop Tyler Greene explained in the media about his team’s defeat.
"It's a tough call, the call's been made," Greene said. "Just from my perspective, I knew it was close, but I thought I'd kind of gotten a foot in there. That's a long run there, I was going with everything I had into home and what happened, happened. I thought it was the right gamble."
In the meanwhile, despite this defeat, the Cardinals are very much in the post season’s qualification race. They are sitting comfortable at the third position in the National League East Division and looking confident to move forward into the next round of competition.
