The evenly contested game won by the Phillies in the end. Both sides played well until the Phillies sneaked through from a narrow margin of one run and outplayed their opponents with complete smartness in the ninth inning.

Victorino said later in the game with quite confidence and self assurance, "We had the early lead, lost the lead early. This was a test of character, What kind of team really are we? I think we can be a great team. It's just a matter of us going out there
and doing it."
"That was a really good game for us, The hits that we got, that was definitely a confidence booster for us. We'll be OK." Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel said.
"I'd say they did a great job of fighting and staying with it, not quitting, That's something we've seen pretty consistently with this team. You just hate to have to fight that much." St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said.
From start of the game, the Phillies put the Cardinals under pressure and slowly went into lead and opened up a gap of six runs in the second inning.
Though, the Cardinals tried to bounce back with their four runs’ addition, but it was not enough for the Phillies who had already taken control of the game and kept their pressure on the Cardinals.
The seventh inning was most interesting when the Phillies from behind went into lead and won the game in style.
The St Louis Cardinals, with this loss, went into second place behind the Cincinnati Reds with .556 winning percentage along with 25-20 win loss record.
