St. Louis Cardinals mixed views on Albert Pujols deal – MLB News

It looks as if the St. Louis Cardinals are caught between retaining one of the most talented players in Major League Baseball, Albert Pujols or sacrifice him for the sake of money and hope for the best.
Pujols is one of the most tremendous players in baseball right now and he has proven himself repeatedly for the Cardinals with his brilliant hitting. He has single handedly won games for them over the past few years. It seems that now he wants a better deal
that represents the amount of hard work that he has put in with his excellent performances for the team.
However, the Cardinals seem to be having mixed views regarding any type of long or short term deal that the team may try to make with the player. The main issue is the financial strain that a possible deal with Pujols will have on the contract of the other
players in the team and their subsequent options.
In essence, any deal with Pujols will have serious repercussions on the rest of the team and their bargaining power on a contractual level. This can put the Cardinals in a very serious spot, as they lose the ability to negotiate with the other players. It
is the feelings of the Cardinals that although Pujols is a great player and he has performed admirably, baseball is a team sport and winning includes great batting and even better pitching. The Cardinals as a whole performed brilliantly and not just Pujols
will be looking to re-negotiate their terms with the team.
All of these issues should get resolved quickly as the Cardinals will be hoping to sign Pujols and work around something for the short term so that he can be a part of the team as Spring Training is starting. The team understands the tremendous impact Pujols
has for them and the Cardinals will be looking to start the spring session with some good wins to build up some confidence in the team before the regular season.
The team understands the importance of having a roster and line-up at full strength that is healthy and of course happy. That is the only way the team can work together for positive results on the field. Having players in vague contractual issues is the
last thing that the team will want during this crucial time of the season.
It will be interesting to see what type of deal Pujols is offered by the Cardinals and whether or not he takes it is a whole other story. Only time will tell what impact this whole ordeal with Pujols will have on the team for the 2011 regular season.
