St. Louis Cardinals not pleased with late start of Game 3 – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals are not happy with the start time of the games being played on their home plate. The National League Division Series’ Game 3 also started late and by the time it ended, there were voices of discontent with it.
For the Cardinals hitters, the late commencement of the game at 4 p.m. is actually fraught with difficulties. Shadows creeping across the field at that particular time make it terribly hard for the batters to go for hits.
With the whole field usually covered in shadow soon after the start of the game, even the most experienced of hitters out there found it beyond them to perfectly execute the ball. That is partly because the light from mound is way different from the one
the batter has in his eyes at centre-field.
For Lance Berkman, it is a highly unlikely situation to deal with. A bar of light, according to him, can be seen in between the pitching mound and home plate which creates trouble for the hitters.
"All you have to do is look at the hitter's eye," Berkman said. "If it's in full sun [and the field is in the shadows], it's not good. As soon as the shadows get to the hitter's eye, [it's OK].
If the problem was confined to a player alone who might have a lot of complaints, it would then be called a player-specific problem. But nonetheless, it is a complaint that almost every hitter out there has. This is issue is something that the Cardinals
will have to deal with.
"It's tough," said Albert Pujols. "But we can't do anything about it. I just don't understand why we're playing a 4 o'clock game when the league knows that we have tough shadows out there. But there's nothing you can do.”
As this problem has been tough to handle for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Phillies have had their preponderant lead on the Cardinals in the series so far. In the National League Division Series, the Phillies now have a 2-1 lead as they won Tuesday’s game
3-2.
