St. Louis Cardinals one win away from World Series against Detroit Tigers – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals are only one win away to play in World Series against the Detroit Tigers after defeating the San Francisco Giants 8-3 on Thursday, October 18 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
"We’ve got to keep playing; We’re looking at a team right here with the Giants that has shown a great deal of resiliency as well by walking into Cincinnati and doing something very unlikely. We don’t look past that at all. What we’re looking at is an opportunity to come out and play tomorrow," manager Mike Matheny said of their chances to show some power plays in the next outing against the Giants.
Game 5 of seven-match series will be played on Friday, October 19 at the Cardinals home field. Chances are high that the Cardinals will go through easily into World Series the way they are performing at the moment.
"We're not taking the last game to get into the World Series for granted, The Giants have proven they're a great team, and they had their backs to the wall against the Reds," Matt Holliday said on his team’s performance.
Game 4 was a stunning success for the Cardinals. They outclassed the Giants in all areas of play and did not let them dominate during the entire game. Cardinals’ upfront batting line-up and starting rotation kept their cool and edged past the Giants with great force.
From their starting rotation to batting line-up, every player performed and helped his team to win the all important game. With this win, the Cardinals took a 3-1 lead while the next game will be the last if Cards are able to oust the Giants.
Adam Wainwright pitched brilliantly for his team. He tossed solid seven innings and received only one run. Though he was hammered with four hits, but overall his performance led the Cardinals to a decent win. "This whole experience is so special as it is," Wainwright said.
Cardinals' closing pitcher Fernando Salas also supported his team-mate and starting pitcher Wainwright as he pitched with enormous energy and proved one of the winning factors for his team.
