St. Louis Cardinals ousted by San Francisco Giants 0-9 in Game-Seven of NLCS – MLB Recap
St. Louis Cardinals were ousted by the San Francisco Giants 0-9 in Game 7 of their seven match post season National League Championship Series on Monday, October 22 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
"If you look at the games we made a lot of mistakes and they didn't make any, They took advantage of those. They were able to put things together, offense, pitching, defense, and we couldn't do that," Carlos Beltran said and explained about his team’s effort.
Cardinals’ starter Kyle Lohse pitched poorly and proved disastrous in the end. Despite knowing that his team is about to repeat last season’s extraordinary performance to qualify for the World Series finale, but he disappointed the entire Cardinals' fans by pitching way-ward in the all important last game of NLCS.
"It's about the team that's hot, and we went on a cold streak, We got to this point by being that team that was hot and taking advantage of opportunities. But we just couldn't make it happen these last two games," Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny said of his team.
He pitched two innings and five runs and six hits. He was only able to strike-out one while his ERA rose to 7.04.
“We've made a lot of good memories so far, We still have a lot of work to do,” catcher Buster Posey said on Giants great team effort.
Along with Lohse, the Cardinals' relief pitchers also played defensively and lost the game. Joe Kelly came to rescue his starter, but he was also hammered with big hits. He allowed two runs and two hits on his 4.50 ERA. Though he struck-out one batter but he could remain consistent on the mound which caused the Cardinals to struggle in a big way.
Mitchell Boggs pitched 0.2 innings and received one run and three hits. He also did not pitch in right areas and lost the game for the Cardinals. He did not retire any hitter while his ERA rose to 5.40.
Closer Jason Motte also disappointed the Cardinals as he allowed one run and received one hit along with a homer on his 2.25 ERA.
