St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Skip Schumaker goes on DL – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ outfielder Skip Schumaker has been put on to disabled list due to magnetic resonance imaging on his injured hamstring.
Skip suffered hamstring inflammation on Wednesday when the Atlanta Braves hammered the Cardinals with 10-7 as he left the game for uncertain time.
After the game, several reporters gathered around him and asked couple of questions from Schumaker on his latest injury on which he gave answers in detail.
"It's about as frustrating as it can get, we have a very good team on the DL right now. We have good guys filling in who are doing a great job. But a healthy Freese, a healthy Beltran... you can't really replace those guys too much. But the guys who are
in there now are going to have to do it, It feels like I pulled my hamstring. It's not good. Hopefully it's a strain and not a pull, But if I had to guess it's probably the DL." Schumaker said in detail.
The seven year Major League veteran started the 2012 MLB season on the disabled list but recovered quite soon and since May, he has been playing well for the Cardinals.
Now this is another setback for him as well as for the Cardinals who are at the moment playing very aggressive and their post season chances seem promising.
However, with this latest Schumaker’s injury, the Cardinals are little worried and showing slight concerns over their senior player’s chances to play again especially before the mid-season break.
Team manager Mike Matheny is also worried as he knows how important Schumaker’s presence in the team. Before getting injured, Schumaker was playing with quite healthy hitting average of .321 along with 12 RBIs and decent on base percentage of .378.
On the other hand, some experts also rate him with some of the best role players in the league. His recent years’ performance has been recognised by many. With his career .291 along with 22 home-run, 195 RBI and .347 certainly makes him a good players whose
presence is much needed in the franchise for at the moment as well for Cardinals future.
