St. Louis Cardinals overcome Milwaukee Brewers 12-6 to win NL Pennant – MLB Update
The St. Louis Cardinals overpowered the Milwaukee Brewers 12-6 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday, October 16 at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to win the NL pennant and qualify for the World Series.
Playing under a retractable roof, the Cardinals lashed three home-runs within the first three innings to gain an early advantage over the Brewers, who had a league-best record at home during the regular season.
Charged up to topple the Brewers, Cardinals’ offence managed to score four-runs each in the first and third inning, taking the score to 9-4 at the end of the third. Milwaukee’s starter Shaun Marcum failed to perform for his team and was removed after the
first-inning fiasco. He was relieved by Chris Narveson, but to no avail. Narveson was unglued for five runs in 1.2 innings and was promptly removed by manager Ron Roenicke, who had earlier advocated against starting ace Yovani Gallardo in this game.
Explaining his decision, Roenicke had stated that he wanted Yovani to start against Chris Carpenter in Game 7 of the NLCS, but unfortunately for him, the series did not go that far.
Marcum became the sixth pitcher in the history of NLCS to go one inning or less. Five out six times, the Cardinals have been involved either as the team that has pulled out the pitcher or as the opponent.
Expressing disappointment on the loss, Roenicke said, "You can't get away with mistakes to them and we made way too many mistakes."
Likewise, Cardinals’ starter Edwin Jackson could not make his mark on the mound, but was lucky to see his team go through safely. He allowed four runs in two innings before being remove by manager Tony La Russa, in what later proved to be a monumental move.

Fernando Salas allowed just one run from his two innings before Marc Rzepczynski came on in the fifth inning and won the game for the Redbirds with a dominant spell of 2.1 innings. He allowed just one run to finish the NLCS at an ERA of 1.93.
Jason Motte proved his versatility in the depth yet again for the Cardinals, pitching a perfect ninth to safely guide his team through to the World Series for a matchup with the Texas Rangers.
