St. Louis Cardinals overwhelm Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in Game 3 of NLCS – MLB Playoffs
Chris Carpenter on Wednesday, October 13 won another battle to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series.
Carpenter allowed three runs to outshine his rival Yovani Gallardo.
"I think our ballclub, no matter leading or behind, it doesn't really matter to be honest with you. We have nothing to lose. You never know how it's going to work out," Carpenter said. "That's what's so fun about this game and that's what's so fun about
pitching.”
With the best-of-seven-game series level, the Cardinals had all their weight behind Carpenter. The starter did not disappoint his well-wishers. Like he disarmed the Philadelphia Phillies in NLDS, he once again prevailed to guide the Cardinals to an important
victory.
Milwaukee Brewers, interestingly, are the same team that put the Cardinals behind in the NL Central title earlier. Nonetheless, despite all the setbacks that have met the Milwaukee Brewers, the team looks forward to start anew once Game 4 kicks off.
"I think regardless of whether we're winning or losing the series, we recognize what's at stake," Brewers’ star Ryan Braun said.
St. Louis Cardinals had the best of starts on Wednesday as Game 3 commenced. After Chris Carpenter pitched a shut-out first inning, there was much that Yovani Gallardo had to do, but he failed. He struggled throughout the game.
Once Gallardo came on the mound, he was greeted with big hits by the heavily charged Cardinals’ offence. Hitter after hitter took him to task and executed what was ultimately the favouring result for the Cardinals.
Jon Jay scored a one-run double, Albert Pujols followed with one. Then Yadier Molina whose run followed that of David Freese put the Cardinals in charge of the game with a 4-0 lead in the 4-hit second inning.
Brewers tried to stage a comeback with Yuniesky Betancourt single followed by that of Yovani Gallardo himself who tried to compensate for his disastrous first inning with a run.
With the lead coming down to 4-2, Mark Kotsay hit a homer against Carpenter, ruffling the confidence of the Cardinals for a few moments. But Carpenter hid his nerves and pitched with poise to end his fifth inning, allowing a total of three runs. He put in
a brilliant pitching performance.
The relief pitchers of the Cardinals did not allow any opportunity to the Brewers’ hitters to reverse the tide. Both teams fought hard and battled it out in the game. Fernando Salas, Lance Lynn and Jason Motte pitched scoreless innings to conclude Game 3
of NLCS with a 4-3 victory for the St. Louis Cardinals.
