St. Louis Cardinals overwhelm the Miami Marlins 5-2 – MLB News
Kyle Lohse on Tuesday, June 26, pitched into the eighth inning to bring a decisive 5-2 win for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Miami Marlins. With the victory, the Cardinals also won the three-game series 2-0.
The Tuesday night game was predominated by a fascinating defensive and offensive combination put together by the Cardinals. If Kyle Lohse took meticulous care to maintain a strong grip on defence, Yadier Molina – the All-star catcher, hit a three-run homer in the very first inning to strengthen the team’s hold on the game.
Much as Yadier Molina’s homer was of great significance, adding to the team’s ultimate victory, it was Kyle Lohse who pitched marvellously, allowing only two runs in his 7.1 innings, with four strike-outs to his credit.
That was a treat to watch for many, especially the team manager who seemed tremendously impressed by the improvements Lohse has made.
"He continues to just improve, which seems hard for a guy -- and I've never been shy in saying, I think he is the best in the game," Matheny said. "He just doesn't rest on that. If there's something in the top level he's just working until he figures it out. You just can't say enough. We're spoiled around here."
Lohse, on the other hand, seems to have set his eyes upon for something bigger. "It's only two starts, but you have certain parks where you feel comfortable in and this happens to be one so far," Lohse said.
What was obviously worrying for the Miami Marlins was the lack-lustre performance put by Carlos Zambrano. The starter allowed five runs in his 6.2 innings, giving up seven hits with a 3.71 ERA.
While he could not execute his pitching the way expected of him, the relievers and closer’s role seemed inconsequential at the end.
Jason Motte of the Cardinals, on the other hand, pitched a hitless and scoreless ninth inning to conclude the game with 5-2 victory for the Cardinals. The two teams will have the final of three-game series on Wednesday, wherein the Cardinals will try to sweep the series with another big win.
