St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher, Adam Wainwright, put on disabled list after sustaining ligament injury
In an interesting development coming through the news wire, Adam Wainwright, was moved to the disabled list by the St. Louis Cardinals. The player, who was working out for the upcoming Major League Baseball (MLB) season, suffered an elbow injury during his regular workout schedule on Monday. The player has been sent to St. Louis for an MRI scan. It is rumored the ace is slated for a Tommy John surgery now.
The news comes as a shocking blow to the team and General Manager, John Mozeliak, has hinted at a possible surgery of that nature. "I don't want to speculate, but obviously ligament damage, that's usually what it results in," he said.
The damage was sustained during a bullpen session. The 29-year-old pitcher talked about soreness in his shoulders after the practice session. After the trainers examined the pitcher, it was decided that he would be sent to St. Louis for further evaluation by club doctors.
Manager Tony La Russa had a chance to talk about the player, "It appears to not be good. We'll see, though." The player produced 20 wins, while losing 11 games for the club in 2010. His earning runs average was up to 2.42. His absence from the club will leave many fans wondering whether the Cards will have a shot at the playoffs or not. The ligament damage is connected to the minor problems Wainwright had in the 2004 and 2008 seasons.
"It was so strange because he had a great throw his first time out," La Russa said. The club isn’t looking for solutions outside the club as home grown players are being considered for a replacement role. "We are not going to look outside the organization," La Russa said. "The answer is here."
The club has options in Lance Lynn, P.J. Walters, Ian Snell and bullpen player, Kyle McClendon. The team doesn’t have any other options for spring. The only concern now is how long will it take Adam to make his way back to the club.
