St. Louis Cardinals’ pitching Coach Dave Duncan back – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ pitching coach Dave Duncan is back to serve the team after he was on a long leave of absence to attend to his wife Jeanie. In August, his wife had undergone brain surgery that prompted him to leave.
As the playoffs kicked off in the National League Division Series involving the St. Louis and the Philadelphia, the Cardinals’ roster now carries the distinguishable name of Dave Duncan who can now be actively engaged with the team.
He will start serving along with the team manager Tony La Russa who will definitely be sufficiently confident for a needed impetus in the team’s performance.
"We're back to operating as we think is our best chance, and he's been part of our best chance for how many years," La Russa said.
The most important thing for the St. Louis Cardinals is to push and charge the pitching line-up. Given the fact that the Philadelphia Phillies have some of the best hitters representing the side, Duncan’s return bodes well for the Cardinals.
He is expected, due to the experience and expertise he is reputed to combine, to help the pitchers throw with more precision. The Cardinals have named Edwin Jackson as the starter for Wednesday, October 5 game against the Phillies.
Tony La Russa thinks with Duncan back, the news is simply too good for the team. "Now we have him there, and I can tell you, just in Game 2, we had a number of conversations about what we were both seeing. I mean, it's great to have him back."
Apparently, the Cardinals have had their fair share of success in pitching the post-season games. Nonetheless, Game 1 was a fiasco for them as the Phillies’ offence blasted the Cardinals’ defence, winning the game 11-6.
Thus it remains to be seen how Duncan changes course as he joins the team. The Cardinals will be looking to Duncan to improve their pitching line-up and boost morale in the bull-pen. It will be interesting to see what type of impact Duncan will have for
the Cardinals as they face the powerful Phillies.
