St. Louis Cardinals rout Texas Rangers 16-7 in Game 3 of World Series – MLB World Series Update
Albert Pujols hit three homers on Saturday, October 22 to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers 16-7 in Game 3 of the World Series at Arlington.
The Cardinals’ hitters sparked to give a valuable 2-1 lead to the team in the best-of-seven series.
But all in all, the credit deservingly goes to Albert Pujols who joined Reggie Jackson and Babe Ruth to become one of only three players to hit three home-runs in the World Series.
"I didn't walk into the ballpark today thinking that I was going to have a night like this," Pujols said.
Having lost the last game 2-1 in the ninth inning, Cardinals reversed the tide here with their hitters going against the best of the Texas Rangers’ pitchers, from Alexi Ogando to Darren Oliver and Michael Gonzalez.
That is what Oliver and Gonzalez acknowledged as well.
"When Pujols is at the plate, that's the first time he did damage. We fought back pretty good, the next thing you know he's up there batting with guys on base and brings them in," Oliver said. "That's what he does. That's why he's the hitter he is."
Saturday’s game started with Allen Craig’s homer for the Cardinals, giving it them an early 1-0 lead which was taken to 5-0 in the fourth inning as David Freese went for a single, Jon Jay got a two-run double and Ryan Theriot scoring a single.
Remaining six at-bats, Rafael Furcal scored a single, Allen Craig scored two runs in five at-bats, Matt Holliday had three runs in five at-bats while Albert Pujols gleaned no less than four runs in six at-bats, which included three homers.
Lance Berkman had two runs in four at-bats, David Freese had a run in four while Yadier Molina and Roy Theriot had a run each in three and four at-bats each, bringing about the massive 16 runs for the Cardinals.
In the three innings that Kyle Lohse pitched, he gave up three runs, allowing five hits and Fernando Salas gave up three runs in his one inning while Lance Lynn gave up a run compared to Matt Harrison’s five runs in 3.2 innings, Scott Feldman’s three runs
in 1.1 innings and Ogando’s four runs in merely 0.1 inning. Gonzalez gave up two runs while Matt Lowe and Dan Oliver gave up a run each.
With this impressive 16-7 victory, the Cardinals now have a 2-1 lead in the World Series whose Game 4 will be played on Sunday at Arlington. It will be interesting to see how the Rangers manage to comeback from such a devastating defeat at the hands of the
Cardinals.
