St. Louis Cardinals secure comfortable 5-2 win against Miami Marlins – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals secured a commanding 5-2 win against Miami Marlins at Marlins Park in Miami on Tuesday, June 26 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The reigning World Series Champion, St. Louis Cardinals put up another strong show to improve their record to 40-35. The Cardinals got the better of their opponents in the opening game and they continued their domination on Tuesday to take a decisive 2-0
lead.
Starting pitcher Kyle Lohse displayed some top quality throwing skills, pitching effectively into the eighth inning to set up an easy win for the Cardinals. He allowed just two runs and four hits with four strike-outs to improve to 2-0 with 1.84 ERA at Marlins
Park.
"It's only two starts, but you have certain parks where you feel comfortable in and this happens to be one so far," Lohse said.
Carlos Beltran had an excellent time on the plate as he singled to centre in the first inning and Rafael Furcal scored to put the Cardinals 1-0 ahead.
Allen Craig also made the most of available opportunities with an RBI groundout into fielder’s choice to left in the first and the Cardinals doubled their advantage to 2-0.
Yadier Molina is keeping things very simple on the mound and his hitting technique is working quite well for him this season.
"He continues to just improve, which seems hard for a guy -- and I've never been shy in saying, I think he is the best in the game," Matheny said. "He just doesn't rest on that. If there's something in the top level he's just working until he figures it
out. You just can't say enough."
"I'm just trying to hit the ball, that's it," Molina said. "Seeing the ball and trying to hit the ball. It's that simple."
The catcher hit his 12th home-run of the season to left in the first inning to put his side in a commanding position. Right now, he is averaging .317 with the bat, which is considerable higher than his career average of .277.
