St. Louis Cardinals show interest in veteran outfielder Carlos Beltran – MLB News
Since Albert Pujols’ has signed with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the Cardinals have started their pursuit of rebuilding the team for 2012. Sources are speculating that the 2011 World Series champions, the Cardinals, are very close to signing outfielder,
Carlos Beltran for future seasons.
According to some Major League inside sources, Beltran and his agent have met with the Cardinals management and showed their interest too for playing in a world-class franchise. Some other teams are also interested in Beltran including the Toronto Blue Jays
and the Boston Red Sox, while only the Cardinals seem favourites to sign him.
Over the past two months, many teams have tried to contact Beltran and his agent for a potential deal, but Josh Willingham and Michael Cuddyer’s late deals with Minnesota Twins and Colorado Rockies have made things a little complicated for the 34-year-old
veteran. Initially, both players were linked to the Cardinals, but they made their last decisions to play somewhere else in the league which left Beltran on the free agency market for more wait.
On the other hand, the Cardinals now have some extra money to shop talented players available in the free agency market after Albert Pujols’ huge salary previously barred them to bring any extra player for future seasons.
The Cardinals management is not only pursuing Beltran but they are also looking on ways to add Japanese national star, Yu Darvish and are planning to make a viable bid for him before any-other team makes it.
Regarding Carlos Beltran, who has thirteen years of professional baseball experience under his belt, he is still playing his top game. Comparing his career hitting average of .283 to his last year’s average of .300 is somewhat a tremendous achievement itself
as after all those years; he still produces magical numbers and always plays with total commitment.
Last year with the San Francisco Giants, Beltran went with .300 along with 22 home-runs, 84 RBIs and .385 on-base-percentages while his career average of .283 along with 302 home-runs, 1146 RBIs and .361 OBP also makes him a competitive player in the current
MLB era.
