St. Louis Cardinals’ starting pitcher Chris Carpenter ready to pitch on Friday – MLB News
St. Louis Cardinals' veteran starting pitcher Chris Carpenter is ready to play his first game of 2012 Major League Baseball season after receiving major surgery to relieve nerve compression which was causing numbness in the right side of his body.
It was huge news for Carpenter’s fans as they were waiting anxiously for his potential return.
Cardinals’ team manager Mike Matheny announced Carpenter’s return on Sunday after playing a wonderful game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in which they outclassed their opponents with a 12 inning hammering.
"I'm looking forward to getting back out there. I'm excited to get back out there, I've put in a lot of hard work to get this done. It wasn't expected and I'm just fortunate to have the opportunity to pitch again, I feel good, No problems," said Carpenter with confidence and explained to the media about his potential return on the field this coming Friday.
Later Matheny also commented in detail and explained to the media about Carpenter’s importance for the Cardinals’ chances to play the 2012 playoffs as he said, "He's a presence on this team. He's a leader on this team, We're excited for him. We're excited for us. I'm anxious to watch him pitch."
Since July, Carpenter is out from the field and underwent a serious surgery which was causing numbness in his most of the right side of his body.
Though earlier team doctors expressed publically that Carpenter will be playing soon into the season, but his recovery process was not easy as the Cardinals extended the rehab process.
Carpenter is an experienced pitcher with career stats of 3.76 ERA along with 144-92 win-loss record and 1685 strike-outs.
His presence in the Cardinals’ roster is essential as his team prepare a push towards the post-season. This year’s upcoming playoffs are already giving an impression of tough competition ahead.
Cardinals are currently looking forward to a Wild Card qualification and once again wanted to tell the other Major League teams that playing well in the regular season is not a key to grab World Series title but to play aggressive in the post-season can be constructive for any team.
