St. Louis Cardinals surpass Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 – MLB Recap
The St. Louis Cardinals surpassed the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 in the fourth and final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, May 27 at Busch Stadium, St. Louis in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Though this particular game was won by the Cardinals, but the series was already won by the Phillies 3-0 just one day ago while this 3-1 final result did not affect both teams’ overall standings in their respective league divisions.
Phillies’ starter Roy Halladay could not stayed longer on the mound as he only pitched two innings and went back to locker room due to shoulder injury, but before leaving the mound he gave four important runs and four earned runs along with a homer giving the advantage to the Cardinals who eventually got away with the superb win.
"Worried? Yeah, definitely, I'm concerned, Pitching is one of the big things on our club and when guys miss a turn, it concerns me, If we have to fill a rotation spot, we'll get somebody and fill it. The games will go on." Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said for Halladay and on his injury.
Later Phillies pitching Coach Rich Dubee said for Halladay’s condition that was taken off after pitching two innings’ spell due to shoulder soreness, "I don't know. I'm not a doctor. I know he's had a cranky shoulder and he hasn't looked right, and didn't look right today, And I knew he wasn't going to come out of the game, so I basically said 'That's enough.”
Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright on the other hand, played well for his team. He remained confident on the mound and pitched some six innings’ spell. He received only one run and somewhat proved a winning factor for the Cardinals who finally defeated the Phillies after losing three games in a row.
Looking at the league standings, the experts rate the Cardinals way ahead of the Phillies’ .510 winning percentage.
The Cardinals despite losing three consecutive games, still strong at second place in the National League Central Division with 26-20 win loss record along with .574 winning percentage.
