St. Louis Cardinals thrash Cincinnati Reds 10-0 – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals thrashed the Cincinnati Reds 10-0 in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, April 10 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Cardinals’ pitcher especially starter Jake Westbrook showed great commitment on the mound and did not allow any runs with his nine innings spell. He struck-out three and made clear that he will certainly win the game for his team.
"He was making a statement, He wanted to make sure he gave the appearance he was ready to go. What a great day for him. It's a great point about resiliency, They certainly showed a different brand the last two days," Cardinals’ manager Mike Matheny said.
Reds’ first baseman Joey Votto said, "It was a perfect storm, He didn't surprise us because he definitely has that capability."
Cincinnati, on the other hand, disappointed with their performance as their entire pitching roster received too many runs.
Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said, “I was hoping this would be different this time especially after that first night, the thing about it is their pitching really shut us down."
Cincinnati starter Homer Bailey pitched five innings and received seven runs on nine hits. He struck-out only two on his 5.73 ERA.
“Once they started seeing the ball there toward the end, they hit it, After watching the film," Homer Bailey said after the game.
Relief pitcher Logan Ondrusek pitched one inning and allowed one run on one hit. He also received a homer on his 9.00 ERA.
Closer Alfredo Simon pitched two last innings and allowed two runs and four hits. He struck-out three on 5.40 ERA.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals’ batters performed wonderfully and edged past the Reds with great style. Third baseman Matt Carpenter scored two runs on his five at-bats as he also maintained his slugging percentage at .629.
Centre-fielder Jon Jay scored one run on his single hit. He also ran for an RBI on his persistent .429 slugging percentage.
Right-fielder Carlos Beltran also contributed with his one run and two RBIs. He remained confident and maintained his slugging percentage at .321. It will be interesting to see if the Cardinals can carry their winning momentum forward.
