St. Louis Cardinals thrilled to play in National League Championship Series – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals will face the San Francisco Giants in their National League Championship Series on Sunday. According to some media reports, the Cards are going into this series with much higher confidence as they recognise that their pitching rotation will be difficult to handle for the Giants’ upfront batters.
Cardinals are coming in after defeating the Washington Nationals in the National League Division Series five-match encounter. They proved their valour in all five games in which most of Cardinals’ senior players performed well and showed their true class. Though at one stage the series was tied at 2-2 but the last and final game proved deceive for them.
"We knew we had a lot of game left after they scored six. Nobody went up there trying to hit a six-run homer, We needed to scratch and claw and get ourselves back in the game, Would have been easy for us to go down 6-0 and sort of roll over and let the crowd take us out of it, and just let them have the game," second baseman Daniel Descalso said after the last game they played against the Nationals.
While the Giants are coming to play in the NLCS defeating the Cincinnati Reds in their respective NLDS five-match encounter.
“You don't want to be in a lose-and-you're-out scenario, We've been in that situation for three days. We're probably going to sleep well tonight," reliever Jeremy Affeldt said when Giants ousted the Reds with great focus.
It is yet to be determined as to who will be starting from Giants’ side but many think that Ryan Vogelsong and Madison Bumgarner are the main players to start against the Cardinals.
Bumgarner with 3.37 ERA along with 16-11 win-loss this season has showed great improvement while Vogelsong with 3.37 ERA and total 158 strike-outs also shows his performance in the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Cardinals on the other hand, are yet to decide as to who will be pitching at AT&T Park in Sunday’s Game 1. They might go for Adam Wainwright, whose season ERA 3.94 certainly is best among the best pitchers in post-season.
