St. Louis Cardinals to decide starter for Game 4 of World Series – MLB World Series
The St. Louis Cardinals is apparently undecided on the name of the starter for Game 4 of the World Series. While Kyle Lohse name has already popped up and subsequently slated for Game 3, Edwin Jackson’s name remains in the balance as well.
There is news that suggests that Jackson may also be available to go for pitching as a relief pitcher. However, this possibility hinges upon the need of the team during gameplay. The St. Louis Cardinals have got a comparative advantage when it comes to defence.
From Chris Carpenter to Kyle Lohse and from Jaime Garcia to Jake Westbrook, there is an array of masterful throwers. Given the wide arrangement to the service of the St. Louis Cardinals, there will certainly be deliberations as to who should start Game 4
in the World Series.
"You don't know what kind of games you're going to have," La Russa said. "And all you know is every game has its own extremely important significance, so you're not going to hold back something for later in the series if you figure you can win it now.”
Jackson therefore is a choice that the Cardinals will rely on in times of need. For Tony La Russa, the versatility and strength of Jackson is important, so he may get the chance in Game 4.
“So Jackson is a great example. This guy is so talented, so strong, so versatile, that if we get a chance to win and he's the guy and he pitches, then we'll do something else [in Game 4]."
He has pitched 12.1 innings in the post-season games, having allowed a whopping number of hits, 16 and given up eight runs with a 5.84 average. The reason why he got a chance to play in the post-season games was his relatively good performance in the regular-season.
Having had the chance to start in 31 out of 32 appearances, he had won 12 of his games, having maintained a 3.79 ERA with 148 strike-outs to his credit and allowing 92 runs with 225 hits. Come Game 4, it will be interesting to see if Edwin Jackson gets his
name slated to pitch and in case he does, there are a lot of expectations from the player.
