St. Louis Cardinals’ top executives optimistic even without Albert Pujols - MLB News
Losing Albert Pujols was no doubt a big blow for the St. Louis Cardinals, but many in the management already knew that his time with them is now over and he will leave the franchise soon.
Not only his departure from the Cardinals took place but it happened in a very open manner when he signed a rocketing 10 year $254 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels. His deal left the Cardinals in deep trouble as they lost a very important player
whom probably no one can replace in their near future.
However, knowing every detail of Pujols’ exit, the Cardinals’ management is taking some drastic steps forward and doing everything that will possibly make them a contender again next season.
Recently the Cardinals’ general manager John Mozeliak and Chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. has addressed in the media regarding all the details of many questions which were arriving in huge numbers after the departure of Albert Pujols.
GM Mozeliak stated in detail about the future of the St. Louis Cardinals’ strategy and how they will be coping with the late departure of Pujols. He also mentioned regarding the excellent farm system of Cardinals and how it will be beneficial for them in
the near future.
Mozeliak said, “It really is, I was like, Wow, and it does create some flexibility for the organization. We knew that was a possibility, I think our farm system is in such great shape, but we will explore some trade opportunities between now and February.
I assure you we have our irons in the fire now and as things get into next week, we'll be active and I think have a pretty good idea of what we want to see happen now.”
Later they both answered several questions and told all the reporters that the St. Louis Cardinals will emerge as a fine team once more in 2012 even without Albert Pujols.
Though the Cardinals might go for some free agents this offseason but both executives remained silent on this topic.
The next few days are very important and make clear to everyone as to where the St. Louis Cardinals are heading without Albert Pujols.
