St. Louis Cardinals top prospect Shelby Miller ready for Major League – MLB News
Shelby Miller, who is the top prospect pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, expressed his hope on Sunday, January 15, that his time to pitch in the Major League will come soon. With 11 wins to his credit in the Minor League, the 21-year-old pitcher is menacingly
poised to rout the rivals the day he is given the opportunity to show his skill.
"I think that my time will come soon," Miller said. "I'm going to keep doing the right things, keep doing all the stuff, trying to get better as a pitcher, working with all my pitches -- and I think everything will fall into place."
He maintained a 2.77 ERA in the 25 games that he was to start in the Minor League. But what created a potentially costly problem for him was the altercation that he had after having been under the influence of alcohol. His received a 12-game suspension that,
to his disappointment, kept him off the field.
Nonetheless, the young player seems to have learned from his mistake and is determined not to repeat it again.
"I learned a lot of things," said Miller, "Being away from the team was awful. I didn't like it at all. I went back to the field, and that was the best feeling I've ever had. I felt like I might have been working a little bit harder after that.”
However, what has happened in the past is a part of history now. What holds importance for him is to descend on the field with a positive outlook and be prepared for taking up the challenges that will determine the future course for Miller.
The 21-year-old player, beyond any shadow of a doubt, has a long way to go. Given the fact that a lot of the Cardinals starters are aging, he has got all the opportunity and chance to be inducted in the bullpen sooner than later.
Nonetheless, it will all depend on how he goes ahead from here on without repeating the mistakes he had wittingly or unwittingly committed; a mistake that could have become costlier.
