St. Louis Cardinals upbeat ahead of Game 6 in NLCS – MLB Update
Despite receiving a humiliating defeat on Friday against the San Francisco Giants, the St. Louis Cardinals are confident to play in the next encounter of National League Championship on Sunday, October 21 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
“We never [thought] for a second that these guys are going to go away, They're a good team, and they're going to keep fighting. We know that. It just comes down to execution. They executed today better than we did," St. Louis Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny said of the Giants after Game 5.
Cardinals currently are leading the series 3-2 while the next game will be very crucial when both teams will reveal their best starters.
It is expected that Cardinals' long time starter Chris Carpenter will be starting the game while Giants’ Ryan Vogelsong is also excited to play in this coming encounter.
The Giants bounced back in Game 5 of NLCS when their starter Barry Zito outclassed the entire Cardinals' batting line-up. He pitched with great accuracy and won the game for San Francisco.
“We can't take anything away from Barry Zito, He went out there and won them that game. It doesn't matter how hard you throw when you have deception and a good curveball. He's as tough as anybody when he's right. He did great tonight." Cardinals’ reliever Mitchell Boggs said for Zito after the Game 5 clash.
During that particular game, the Giants' batters also supported their starter. They all played well and stretched a five run lead early in the game which proved one of the winning factors for the Giants.
Giants also needed that victory as it was the decisive point of the series where one mistake could have proved disastrous and Cardinals could have gone into World Series finale against the Detroit Tigers.
Second baseman Marco Scutaro batted well as he scored one run and smashed one hit on his consistent .524 slugging percentage.
Third baseman Pablo Sandoval also played his role in ousting the Cardinals in the Game 5 of NLCS. He scored two runs with one RBI. He played aggressively and remained calm on his .571 slugging percentage.
