St. Louis Cardinals weigh names for possible team manager – MLB News
As the St. Louis Cardinals witnessed a meteoric rise once again with the World Series title, the departure of their team manager Tony La Russa is something of a great challenge to the entire management, which is seeking to induct a capable leader.
A number of names have already popped up, which is not formally announced by the Cardinals yet. The St. Louis Cardinals’ skipper Tony La Russa had made it known he had no intentions to come back after retirement.
"I'm aware of the history of the game," La Russa said. "But I would not be happy with myself if the reason I came back was to move up one spot. That's not why you manage ... it's not something that motivates me. Wherever you finish, you finish."
However, the St. Louis Cardinals have too many options in front of them right now. Nonetheless, from what it seems, there is no hurry for picking up a new manager and striking a deal. The Cardinals will understandably be busy in looking for all prospects
before making any decision.
Among one of the strongest candidates who may be contacted is Terry Francona. The former Boston Red Sox manager helped the team win a World Series title after almost eight decades, an achievement that won him compliments. If he gets the chance, the strong
Cardinals with all their credentials will be a perfect choice for him.
Mark McGwire is another name under consideration. The enviable qualities of leadership as the hitting coach he is in line with Dave Duncan who remains an identifiable name of the Cardinals with his credentials in leading the team’s pitching squad as La Russa’s
right hand.
Jose Oquendo is another name, best recognised as the Cardinals’ icon. However, in an earlier interview that was conducted, he was turned down. Among others, Terry Pendleton is yet another name that comes to the fore in this regard.
Joe Maddon and Jim Riggleman are other prospects along with Chris Maloney, Mike Matheny and Pete Mackanin. However, it all depends on what the St. Louis Cardinals decide. But whatever they do, it will have huge bearing on the Cardinals future.
