St. Louis Cardinals will retain Yadier Molina – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ catcher Yadier Molina was conspicuously absent from the Winter Warm-Up camp for a day and speculations were rife that the player was moving. However, general manager John Mozeliak has dismissed it and maintains that he is a player
that the team will like to retain for the long term.
With the free-agent market being abuzz with a lot of speculation, a lot of people will give credence to this guessing. Nonetheless, from what it clearly appears, the club does not intend to lose the player at any cost.
It was this reason that the general manager Mozeliak made a strong point in this regard once referred to the speculations.
"I just don't think he really loves the autograph process and going through all of that," said Mozeliak, noting that Molina did not appear at last year's event either. "He'll likely probably try to make a donation [to Cardinals Care] to make up for that.
He understands the club's stance on this. Clearly, it's not something that's become a big issue."
With seven years experience in his impressive credentials, Yadier Molina upheld the professionalism last season with majestically wonderful performance throughout the year. The fact that he maintained a .305 average speaks a great deal why the team will
not want to lose him.
Molina’s .305 average was eighth best in the National League in 139 games that he appeared for the St. Louis Cardinals in 475 at-bats, scoring 55 runs with 65 RBIs to his credit. The catcher had 145 hits to his credit, and also won the Platinum Glove along
with Adrian Beltre.
Drafted in 2000, Molina has shown remarkable consistency as a catcher, remaining a regular fixture of the St. Louis Cardinals throughout these years.
The 2012 season will be the last year of the contract that Molina has with the St. Louis Cardinals where he will be able to make $7 million. What remains to be seen, however, is that if the team shows the same gusto to keep him in possession even after the
end of the season; something that cannot be ruled out completely.
