St. Louis Cardinals worry as Albert Pujols has collision with Wilson Betemit – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals had a reason to worry as their first baseman Albert Pujols had a collision with Kansas City Royals’ Wilson Betemit as he tried to tag him out.
After leaving the field, it was reported by the trainer that Pujols had hurt his shoulder and quite possibly sprained his left wrist from the collision.
The Cardinals worried because Pujols is a tremendous player that provides some powerful hitting to the team on a consistent basis. Any injury that can upset Pujols’ natural rhythm can have a negative effect on his batting prowess for the team. However, after
talking to the trainers it seems that Pujols will hopefully not have to be placed on the disable list as his injuries are not as serious as they were once presumed to be during the game.
Cardinals’ general manager John Mozeliak stated that Pujols had an X-ray done and there were no broken bones. This is good news for the team, as they will want to have Pujols at full strength during this crucial part of the season.
Betemit said “Basically he ran the mitt into me. I didn't know where he was going. I was running hard and the ball got there at the same time I got to the base. I couldn't do anything. It just happened."
Pujols is a tremendously talented player, as he has managed to hit 40 home-runs on average each season for the Cardinals. The team has already had a bad run with injuries to their players. There are close to thirteen players currently injured for the Cardinals.
However, as it seems the injuries are not serious, Pujols will probably not be put on the disabled list and will be looking to continue with his brilliant performance during the season for the Cardinals. The entire team basically revolves around Pujols as
he is the player that usually puts up the numbers with his gifted batting displays.
The team will be hoping that Pujols is okay and stays injury-free for the rest of the season, as the Cardinals are looking for a playoff spot.
