St. Louis Rams’ GM, Les Snead, confirms interest in trading the second draft pick – NFL News
All the speculations surrounding St. Louis Rams trading their second overall pick in the upcoming National Football League (NFL) drafts received the official stamp on Thursday, March 1, 2012, when the general manager, Les Snead, confirmed that the franchise is willing to trade its pick to the highest bidder and informed that multiple teams have contacted Rams in this regard.
A day earlier, http://www.senore.com/St-Louis-Rams-ready-to-trade-number-two-draft-pick-NFL-News-a133077indicated that Rams were ready to trade the pick, but the official word was yet to come.
On Thursday, Snead spilled the beans during a radio interview and informed that different teams have approached Rams seeking the draft pick trade.
However, Snead refrained from giving the names of the interested franchises.
He said:
“I won't give a number ... but I will say this: We've been approached by multiple teams, and some of them are obvious and some of them are not so obvious.”
As per different reports, the teams interested in trading the pick could be Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns.
All of these teams are interested in adding a quarterback to their offensive unit and that determines their eagerness to get an early pick in the drafts.
After ending the last NFL season with 14 defeats and only two victories, Rams earned second overall pick for the drafts that will take place in April 2012.
Rams’ quarterback, Sam Bradford, who has played only two seasons with the franchise, played only 10 games in the last season. He completed 191 passes of 357 attempts for 2,164 yards for six touchdowns and six interceptions.
Rams have expressed faith in Bradford and that’s why they are ready to trade the pick.
They might pick up receivers to support Bradford or could also add strength to their defensive unit for which the second pick is not needed.
While mentioning the poor record Rams have maintained during the last few years, Snead said:
"We have a lot of needs. What's nice is, we have a lot of young pillars as well. But there's probably not a position in this draft, other than QB, that we couldn't draft one of those players. When you have a franchise QB, you definitely would love to get explosive weapons for that player.”
Neither Snead confirmed the names of the teams that have approached Rams nor did he share the franchise’s plans.
Now with the established fact that Rams will trade their pick, the name of the potential suitor could be made public within the next few weeks.
