St Louis Rams’ Jeff Fisher commends Brian Schottenheimer – NFL News Update
The Head Coach of St Louis Rams, Jeff Fisher is please to have the former offense coordinator of the New York Jets, Brian Schottenheimer on his side.
"I am really excited to have Brian join our staff. He is a well-respected coach in this league who has had success for many years at a high level as an offensive coordinator. We share the same philosophies on the offensive side of the ball.’’ Fisher said.
The Rams had announced on Monday that Schottenheimer was to be their new offensive coordinator.
Schottenheimer has remained the San Diego Chargers’, quarterbacks’ coach after which he joined the Jets. Schottenheimer spent six years with the Jets and then decided to leave them in a hurry.
He landed up with the Rams within a few days after leaving the Jets team.
Schottenheimer had been receiving a lot of criticism from angry fans for failing to improve the Jets offense. The criticism had increased following the Jets loss to the New York Giants and reached a climax after the Jets were eliminated from the playoffs
after enduring a season ending loss to the Miami Dolphins in their final game.
Critics wrote against the offensive coordinator in the newspaper and on the internet.
However, the Jets’ head coach Rex Ryan had come to his rescue saying he had great amount of confidence in all of his coaches including Schottenheimer.
The criticism though seemed to be taking its toll on Schottenheimer who probably decided to leave the team in this regard.
Schottenheimer had failed to help Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez get back on the track and Sanchez’s poor performance was also one of the reasons for the critics pointing out their guns towards Schottenheimer.
Another reason for the criticism was the frequent play-callings by Schottenheimer.
Ryan though had been quite consistent about his support for Schottenheimer. Schottenheimer could surely have stayed with the Jets had he wanted to even though there were calls by some angry fans to fire him.
Ryan had commended Schottenheimer role in the Jets team thanking him for his work when he left the Jets.
“He’s got everything it takes to be a successful head coach in this league”, Ryan had said.
However, Ryan who had a very close working relationship with Schottenheimer took a little different turn lately when he announced that one of the reasons why the Jets failed to reach the playoffs was the complex offensive system being run by Schottenheimer.
Ryan said he stayed away from the offense for this very reason.
Under Schottenheimer, the Jets ranked at the 25th number in National Football League (NFL) with an average of 307.7 yards per game.
