St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson hoping for success with Jeff Fisher – NFL News
Running back Steven Jackson joined the St. Louis Rams in 2004. In his rookie season, the team qualified for the playoffs, won the wildcard game against Seattle Seahawks but lost the next against the Atlanta Falcons.
Although Jackson’s participation was limited in that season, he was at least able to enjoy playing in the postseason.
After that season, Jackson become the starter and got enough playing time in every season. His performance also stayed brilliant as he was nominated for Pro Bowl squad a few times while he also has some franchise records under his belt.
However, Jackson has never been able to play in the playoffs since becoming the starter. Unfortunately, Rams have not been able to qualify for the postseason since the 2004 season.
Rams’ last season performance was very discouraging; it was not something new to them, though, based on their recent performances.
Rams ended up winning only two games in the 2011 season. They lost 14 and were placed at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) West. Eventually, the owner fired the coach and general manager.
Rams have now a new head coach in veteran Jeff Fisher who has a plenty of coaching experience and has so far combined nicely with new general manager and players during the offseason.
For Jackson, Fisher’s appointment is very encouraging. He is happy to have someone with that much experience. It has also forced him to believe that the Rams could reach the playoffs in the 2012 season.
Whether they reach the playoffs or not, it is expected that they will do relatively well this time with Fisher coaching them.
When asked about the difference Fisher’s arrival has made, Jackson said:
"It's quite a difference. Nothing against what I've had before coach Fisher, but you can definitely tell a difference in leadership, a difference in confidence. It's not so much of on-the-job training.”
He added:
“I'm just impressed by what he's assembled with assistant coaches around him. We have very credible coaches that are teaching me and some of my teammates. It's just impressive, what they've been able to accomplish in some of their own careers.”
The running back further said:
“It's very refreshing to have a coach that has that kind of resume and brings that kind of credibility.”
