St. Louis Rams’ Steven Jackson ready to train Trent Richardson if the team drafts him – NFL News
St. Louis Rams traded their second overall pick for the upcoming National Football League (NFL) drafts, implying that they do not need a new quarterback for the next season, but the team is yet to announce what it will do with its sixth pick, which it has
earned in draft pick trade from the Washington Redskins.
Whatever decision the team management takes, Rams’ running back, Steven Jackson, has said that he would be ready to train and mentor another running back, Trent Richardson, should the latter gets selected by the Rams.
Jackson said:
"The Rams are going to do what's best for the Rams, I understand that, it's a business. All I can do is try to be there for the young guy and if he's receptive I'll help him. And if not you've just got to compete, and I'm not backing down."
Jackson is unarguably one of the best running backs Rams have ever had. He joined them in 2004 and has been playing for them since then.
In his rookie season, he started three games while playing 14 in which he rushed for a total of 673 yards.
However, he became the team’s regular starter in his second season, and in his last seven seasons, he rushed for over 1,000 yards in every season respectively, setting a franchise record by becoming the team’s all-time leading rusher.
Jackson feels that he is capable of achieving more milestones as he continues to be in great shape health wise. Moreover, he is also looking forward to receiving training under new head coach, Jeff Fisher.
He said:
“I'm at the point where my physicality has not fallen off, and my mental (game) has really taken off by leaps and bounds in understanding the game of football. I feel like I'm right there. I feel like I'm in my prime. And I'm excited about what I can do
in this offence."
On the other hand, Rams have not spilled the beans yet regarding taking Richardson on board.
Even if the Rams draft Richardson, who played for the University of Alabama’s team, he will not get the starting role in presence of Jackson.
