St. Louis Rams agree to trade number 2 draft pick with Washington Redskins – NFL News
After admitting that many National Football League (NFL) teams were in contact with St. Louis Rams regarding the trade of number 2 draft pick, the team management has finally agreed to make a deal with Washington Redskins, different reports citing credible
sources claimed on Friday, March 9, 2012.
According to the reports, both teams cannot make a formal announcement unless the start of the new league year next week.
As per the terms of the deal, Redskins will get the number 2 draft pick in the upcoming NFL drafts. In return, Redskins will give Rams their sixth overall pick and a second-round pick this year. In addition, Rams will also get Redskins’ first-round picks
in 2013 and 2014 drafts.
Rams could only win two out of 16 games during the last NFL season and was ranked among the worst teams of the league.
The same fate, a little worse actually, was also shared by Indianapolis Colts, who earned the first overall pick.
Rams had the second overall pick that could have been used to draft a quarterback, but the newly appointed management expressed faith in the current quarterback, Sam Bradford, and decided against hiring new quarterback.
Rams’ general manager, Les Snead, had earlier said that he was in contact with many other teams seeking the draft trade, but the latest development has suggested that Redskins were the highest bidder.
Redskins too did not have a very ideal season last year and they ended up at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division after winning only five out of 11 games.
They had also expressed interest in signing veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning, who has just been released by Colts.
However, the player was reportedly http://www.senore.com/Peyton-Manning-not-interested-in-joining-Washington-Redskins-NFL-News-a135195in playing for the Redskins and hence it became inevitable for them to go up in the draft and select the top prospect.
Colts are expected to select Stanford College’s Andrew Luck and now the next draft prize, Baylor’s Robert Griffin III, might end up joining hands with Redskins.
It is expected that Rams might select receivers in the drafts to strengthen the offensive unit and provide support to Bradford.
The drafts will start in April.
