St. Louis Rams aim to carry on their good run as they face Miami Dolphins in Week 6 – NFL Preview
St. Louis Rams are having a great time this season, thanks to a dominant defensive performance. They will look to better their record as they go on road to face revitalised Miami Dolphins in Week 6 game on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Sun Life Stadium.
For the first time in last five years, Rams are looking like a contender for the playoffs. Although there is still a lot of time left in the season, things have never been that good in recent times.
Meanwhile, Dolphins are looking forward to stepping up their game and hoping to get better with rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill playing better than expected.
Tannehill will face his first tough test come Sunday as he will face a strong defensive team without the support of star running back Reggie Bush, who is doubtful for the game.
Backup running back Daniel Thomas is also out with a concussion, making Tannehill more dependent on his wide receivers. Talking about Tannehill, left tackle Jake Long said:
"When stuff breaks down he's able to make plays and the opponents we've faced in these first five games have been great defences and really tough.”
Defensively, Dolphins have been pretty stiff on the field, not allowing pass rush of more than 100 yards in last 19 encounters. Also, 11 of their 15 sacks this season have come in their last two games. Appreciating the defence, Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said:
"We're getting the run shut down well and getting favourable down and distance where we can tee it up and go after the quarterback a little bit.”
Rams defence has been a force to reckon with. They have only given 16 points in their last two games. The defence is getting better and better with the season.
Outstanding performance from defensive end Robert Quinn became the foundation for the Rams 17-3 victory last week against Arizona Cardinals. He was able to get three sacks in the game where Rams defence got a total of nine sacks. Defensive end Chris Long said:
"I've never been there before. I'm unfamiliar with the sound of it, but I'm liking it."
Not only the defence is happy with their performance, but also the offence has been thankful to them for taking them out of many tough situations this season.
Rams offence has been struggling throughout the season due to lacklustre performance by quarterback Sam Bradford, who currently has a 78.6 quarterback rating.
The offence is currently standing 29th in the league ranking. Talking about the defensive output of Rams, Bradford said:
"Those guys played outstanding. They've played great all year and they have kept us in a lot of games."
