St. Louis Rams appoint Dave McGinnis as assistant head coach – NFL News Update
As part of the ongoing campaign of introducing new personnel in the office, St. Louis Rams on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, announced the appointment of former Tennessee Titans’ assistant coach, Dave McGinnis, as the franchise’s new assistant head coach.
The announcement was made by the newly appointed head coach, Jeff Fisher, who was also coaching the Titans before joining the Rams.
Fisher commented:
“I feel very fortunate that we were able to bring Dave aboard. He’s been in a variety of roles in this league, from position coach all the way up to head coach. His vast knowledge and experience will be valuable assets to our staff, and I’m really excited
to have the opportunity to work with Dave again.”
The 60-year-old McGinnis started his professional National Football League (NFL) career in 1986 as linebackers’ coach for Chicago Bears.
He joined Arizona Cardinals in 1996 as defensive coordinator and was promoted to the position of head coach in 2000.
He joined the Titans in 2004 as linebackers’ coach and parted ways with them after the end of the 2011 regular season.
Out of seven years with the Titans, six were spent under Fisher. When Fisher opted to join Rams, there were speculations that he would call McGinnis to St. Louis, and now it’s been officially confirmed.
Fisher is heading the rehabilitation process of the franchise after a dreadful season as a result of which the then head coach and general manager were fired.
Earlier this week, Rams also announced the appointment of new offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, and defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams.
Williams, like McGinnis, is a close friend of Fisher.
After receiving a call from Fisher in which the head coach offered Williams to join Rams, the latter thanked Fisher for providing him the opportunity and said that he would try his level best to support Fisher’s vision.
McGinnis said:
“I have known Jeff Fisher for a long, long time and there is nobody I trust more than Jeff Fisher. As soon as they hired Jeff Fisher they were in the right path and I am thankful he’s given me an opportunity to be a part of it. Hopefully I can contribute.
I’m looking forward to it.”
Rams have brought several new faces into its office after consultation from Fisher, who has been given complete authority over the selection of his subordinates.
Moreover, Fisher will also have some input regarding the appointment of a new general manager for the franchise.
